Things to Do this Christmas

Christmas.

A time for giving, and blessing and having quality time with your family and loved ones. It’s this time of year that gets people feeling all ‘soft and fuzzy’ and wishing to give an extra helping hand or extend some goodwill towards fellow man.

December is a magical time where children dream of Santa Claus and his reindeer traveling across the world, climbing down chimneys and leaving everything they want under a beautifully decorated Christmas tree. We all know, that sometimes Santa is unable to give all that is needed and that he can’t always fulfill all the children’s dream, and so if you’re looking for a way to give back to those in need this festive season, this is just the post for you.

This year, I’m looking at helping the Reach for a Dream foundation. The foundation itself made its 1st dream come true on 7 July 1988, and since then has helped numerous children living in South Africa, realise their dreams. The organisation defined its core purpose as

“Fulfilling the dreams of children of any race, colour and creed between the ages of 3 and 18 faced with a life-threatening illness.”

“Reach for a Dream seeks to alleviate the strain that a life-threatening illness places on these children and their families by providing the children with the opportunity to realise their dream. Reach for a Dream enriches children’s lives by making dreams come true and as a result, distracting them from the needles, medication and hospital environment.” – Website: www.reachforadream.org.za

So below is the ‘Current Dreams’ list from the RFAD foundation, of all the children that they are assisting over the Christmas period. As you scan through the list, you’ll see how simple some dreams are and how blessed we are. Together we can achieve the dreams of the many children living with a life threatening illness.
